Rapsody’s glow up continued earlier this month as she sat down for an interview with the legendary Larry King. The North Carolina native talked about how Kendrick Lamar changed her career and what makes him such a special artist, hip-hop’s responsibility in the era of President Trump, and her Grammy Nominations (Laila’s Wisdom is nominated for Best Rap Album while Sassy is up for Best Rap Song).
As one of the few female rappers with mainstream exposure, however, Rapsody admits her GRAMMY nominations are bittersweet. “There are women in hip-hop, but you have to dig and find them, she says. “It’s not like the ’90s when I was growing up with Lauryn [Hill], Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa and Missy Elliott. You had a plethora of women. But this new era, it seems like there can only have one at a time.”
